Moving Back to Me

Six years ago, I hesitantly started sharing my learning and development work with the world. Tentatively, I decided to start sharing my writings. A blog was the way to go.

I then had a decision to make: Write under my own name or publish under a pseudonym (an anonymous identity)? My fears said to me: What if people didn’t like my writing? Would it embarrass me? Would it tarnish my professional reputation? Would it offend people close to me? Would it put me in danger of being attacked if people didn’t like what I expressed?

But I knew in my heart that my journey was one of expressing myself and sharing what I know with the world. My learnings, my experiences, my stories, my ideas for change. I realised then that to write under anything but my own name would be a cop-out because I was afraid to stand in my authenticity.

And so took the brave step and started writing online at stutisingh.com. (But I didn’t share it widely, preferring to remain ‘low key’ (read scared to show myself widely!) So you probably never came across what I shared, and I didn’t do you any service.)

Fast forward a couple of years, as I developed my talks and programmes to go beyond fear and create the life we love, I started to feel that my name ‘wasn’t enough’: It wasn’t about me, it was about the message, the inspiration, and that’s what must be known. I was secondary. People wouldn’t want to know me. They would want to know A Life Without Fear. And so I started to teach under the ‘A Life Without Fear’ name.

That humble mindset served me very well. It allowed me to grow from a place of service and share my work widely with thousands of people. A Life Without Fear now has brand recognition around the world. Even people I meet after years tell me how much they resonate with living a life without fear!

But what I realised, coming into this year, is that even with all the best intentions at heart, I had ended up using A Life Without Fear as a convenient pseudonym. In subtle ways, I was hiding and holding back from fully showing myself, from fully sharing what I had to give. That courageous decision of six years ago was upon me again. I knew in my heart it was time to fully own who I am and not stand in subservience to anything, not even my own teachings.

I am not separate from what I teach. Everything I share, everything I teach is built on years of my own learnings, comes from my heart, and always has a personal resonance. A Life Without Fear starts with me. And it is my responsibility to lead by example, to lead from the front, and to truly lead without fear in all my vulnerability, power and service.

And so, it is with great love for what I do, great support from my team, and great courage to show who I am that I introduce myself to you again.
